But I mean stepping up to things that aren't just online, like a State Tech Fair or something Collegiate-Level, things like the West Virginia one, that are a great chance for exposure in the real world.

I participated in a state tech fair with my school multiple times, but that was as said, through school.
I'd say hitting Google wouldn't be a bad shot, but try talking to some teachers in the tech department at your school(if you're still in school ;P).
I know that a lot of people like Adam Phillips/Chluaid and Andrew Kerekes/SpikeVallentine have participated in festivals.
Try talking to Andrew/SpikeVallentine about it. He's quite nice and I'm sure he know a bunch more about how to get your stuff out there than I do.
