Not bad

But your lip syncing was off once it moved out to the hall.

Did you have your sounds set to "event" instead of "stream"?

GotRedOnYou responds:

It was part of the jam, so i concentrated on the animation not sound.
when the comp is over, i might add to this toon and give it a rework, i only had 48 hours to animate it. if your not an animator, (thats not that long), if you are, you should be able to understand.

Pretty funny, actually.

Although I was really hoping for that obligatory fat noise or ballon deflating when he lost his boner.

Fawx responds:

holy shit were you in my mind when i was making this? thats exactly what i wanted to be there, but unfortunately i didnt have enough time to get it :C.

eh...

You should have been able to find sprites of the player in the grass versus just running overtop of it.

Also, Metapod doesn't forget tackle, so that's a bit flawed.

POKEMANMASTER responds:

Metapod forgetting tackle is the entire point of the joke. I mean, I don't think Epic Fail Guy is in Pokemon either, it's not a flaw, it's the point of the flash

I really could care less about the movie

And obviously, you too.

But I wholy agree with what you stated. I think what's more sad than the actual situation at hand is the reactions that I've seen in these comments. For example:

"And no, creating your own script and characters isn't that important, being funny and appealing to the public is." - G12IM88

His entire review basically made me die inside a little.

Anyways, thanks for doing this. I've seen a lot of journals about this, but obviously some little kid posting about how Madness makes his dick hard or that he thinks that rtil is a jerk is more important.

I think Tom made a really good move front paging this, just so people will read this. Even if people aren't going to read it and are just going to criticize the movie, which was truly just a formaility with a lemony zest of satire.

Thanks.

dreftclub responds:

A few months ago ashford pride made a movie with a foreboding title. It was called "Awesome Grounds".

Well ladies and gentlemen, that's might as well what this site should be called (at least right now), with the top row on the front page slot dedicated to an "awesome" movie and an "awesome" parody, an "awesome" t-shirt in the newgrounds store, and pretty much every "awesome" movie in the top 100, along with han's "awesome's creed".

I can't go to newgrounds with seeing something not about egoraptor or his coveted video game parody series. It makes me wonder sometimes if pursuing anything but half-assed cartoons making mildly funny observations about video games laced with profanity is even worth it. Truly, they are what bring the masses of 13-year olds to this site, and thus increases traffic and competition in the internet world. But you have to ask yourself, with this sort of two-bit audience increasing in numbers, are they really interested in watching anything else?

I understand that it's a dog eat dog world in the online entertainment business, and to compete you have to pretty much put up content that a majority of internet browsers would click on. This includes either women or video games. Things they already know they want. And that's all they want. They sign up, watch more, and come back and do it again later. They're trained to know that what they want is easily accessible and is promoted all over the site.

Original content is often shuffled off to the bottom of the page, or never gets any attention to begin with. Now comes into play the whole 'they won't click on it unless there's a boob for the icon', etc etc. That's because they've been fashioned to think that way.

I'm not saying i have all the mysterious answers to the way people's minds work. But this much is true - if all people click on are breasts and video game icons, and you give them breasts and video game icons, you're not pushing the envelope.

Newgrounds is the epitome of user-generated content. We already have a massive advantage over youtube in the fact that making a cartoon involves so much more creativity than snappily editing your webcam footage. So instead of 200 cartoons coming out every minute, we have 200 cartoons coming out every day. That gives someone a better chance of breaking out and being discovered for his hard work, and a reward for a job well done.

But in the same way that viewers are trained that they don't have to go out of their way to avoid original content they would otherwise enjoy, authors are becoming more and more disenchanted with their personal creations and are turning to nerd culture icons and cheap tactics to get viewers.

I can't tell you how many animators I have spoken to that have shunned their own creations in favor of sub-pop culture parody and disjointed scripts sprinkled with toilet humor and profanity. a cartoon catering to everyone who's forgotten what cartoons are all about. And here we are shoving away everything about cartoons that was originally appealing and magical, because we're pretty much forced to.

I'm not pointing the finger at any one person here. I think it's part of the bigger picture - bigger than Newgrounds, too. But if people really care about the future of cartoons and animation, we wouldn't be seeing this kind of blatant favoritism.

People will find what they want if they want it. They don't need to be spoon fed it all.

For thirty years animators who strive to create something genuinely unique have gotten nothing but a slap in the face. It's sickening and it has to stop someday, before they all disappear.

Lastly, this post is not about me. I'm not writing this out of self-pity, bitterness or spite. I'm being honest. I care a lot about the future of animation, and what I see around me is very troubling. The industry is bad enough, but where the future lies is in the small corners of the animation world. Newgrounds is one of them. I spend a lot of time trying to encourage and teach frame-by-frame animation, and creating your own characters and scripts. That is what is important

Pretty Good

Short and sweet, but a bit predictable in the end.

Also, what is this "Newgrouds" site that you link to at the end :3

peixeaquatico responds:

Thanks man

Pretty sweet.

My only thought was that at one point the sound went off sync and then just kept getting worse. Did you strem the sound or use the event setting?

Other than that, I thought it was nice. A little dark, but they were mostly silhouettes.

All I can say is you better pass the class :3

alkr00 responds:

haha, i think have a pretty good chance of passing the class, even with a few missing assignments XD.
i did not use event settings, because im on the level1 class right now, and audio along with action scripting was not a big part of it.

thank you for the feedback! appreciate it a lot.

Short and Bad

Cool. No plot, like 5 seconds long, and you didn't draw any of it yourself.

Arthurtobastico responds:

fuck ya man!
is my first try and u expect me to draw them!
talk about the animation and give advises!

I'll completely support any accusations

Even though I've made sprite movies myself and I know how challenging it is/isn't, I have to say this is only a half decent one.

You don't really have a grasp on the whole "v-cam" thing, especially since whenever you zoom in or pan something, you distort your image. Sadly, that's easily avoidable by scaling the cam and not resizing(hold in shift when you resize). That's just a minor yet bothersome detail to me.

As far as originality goes, I actually read your author's notes *gasp* or rather, where they should be. Instead, it's you complaining about other people's complaints about how your work is unoriginal, which it is, unfortunately. You even get pissy about how people accuse you of ripping ideas from Proxide(which was my first thought when you had the feaux-menu pop up, considering it looks just like his exactly, just less photoshopped and more flashed).

Overall, yes, the sprites looked nice, but you really didn't have much plot to your movie, and I felt I should have watched some sort of prequel or had a backstory. Your spelling is atrocious(ex. "jeperdizing" instead of "jeopardizing") and you grammar is horrible(Not capitalizing names and first words of a sentence, using commas(or lack thereof)), and in general it was poorly written for what dialog there was.

As far as you bashing on Proxide, he only notes one other movie that "inspired" him to make his own, but he never claims originality. He might not have been the first, but similar to Alvin-Earthworm, he has taken his other abilities outside of Flash and incorporated them into an interesting and creative story, none of which you have.

You didn't make any of the art, really, except for the poorly made menu(which I think you used a stock button on anyways). The sprite animation was decent, but nothing special, seeing as everything was standard or stock, nothing personally created.

Overrall, it's a pretty bad movie for you to get so huffy about it.

No matter what you think your movie "deserves", it's going to get the score it warrants from voters. Contrary to what some people have said(Jackosender), this movie is somewhere on the low end of decent and nowhere near awesome. This is NOT Top 5 quality, this is NOT Frontpage quality, and you should really try harder next time when you want something. Putting in more effort usually yeilds better results, especially art-wise.

My Protip: Learn to use Photoshop for menus and special effects. Not only is Flash not really capable of making a sexy menu, it's really only good for coding it and putting some animation into it. As far as special effects, there's no need to get so heavy-handed with them, but stock effects are quite bring and it's nice to see variety.

You get a "meh" rating. 2/5.

I think I voted lower because I felt your movie score was inflated and I wanted to lower it, which I did.

Good luck next time.

rosecicmil responds:

yes you was right. i was just angered at the time and never changed the authors comment. i thank you for your constructive criticism and for the few tips you gave me. once again a am sorry for what i have wrote earlier if anyone read it.

Not that good, I'm afraid

First, you need to learn how to edit sprites using Flash and/or Photoshop or MSPaint. The sun thing was horrible.

Your "Inbetweeners" were pretty bad, there should be somethingto keep me interested.

All the "special effects" you did were bad. Luigi's head in the first part was attrocious. The eyes... So easy to make.

The animation was decent, but not fluid enough really. To that note, learn how to use the Ease command, that'll make things nicer when you figure it out.

All in all, it was unoriginal and not very well done.

2/5

tank2tank responds:

I know the sun thing messed up, but I think it was the only time I couldn't get the sprite properly.
Inbetweeners... whatever, its only a 5 second wait.
Special effects... eyes easy to make? Well, yeah... so what? Is that really a problem in a movie like this?
I DID use the ease command.

Shoot 'Em Up AND Pendulum

Could this movie get any better?

Well, maybe a bit more frames in between for a bit more flow, but hey, it stills fucking rocks.

:3

Nogfish responds:

I assure you I would have loved to have more frames in there, but I was running a little low on time :C

glad you liked it though.
